  Welcome to the second edition of the SPESFEED News for 2013. It has been a
busy year with plenty of changes occurring in our industry. Some of the
smaller producers have stopped trading, while some more established
players have sold their businesses to the National Government and
empowerment consortiums. The weakness of the Rand, coupled with higher
protein prices have meant that there will be little chance of cheap feed
ingredients for a while. The talk of the Government adding duty to imported
poultry products is promising, but perhaps the weakening Rand will resolve
the issue to some extent. The report carried by Carte Blanche only
demonstrated just how complex the whole issue is.
