The maize harvest is in and despite expectations of a record crop in the USA it would appear that our price is set at about the R 2000 – R 2200/ton mark for the remainder of the year. This is way less than the R 2800/ton being paid in March and not that different to what was being paid at this time last year. The cost of protein however has shot up. Heat wave conditions in the major growing areas of the US are causing what can only be described as panic buying. |
